4 Big Reasons NOT to use Angel Cards

The REAL reason why Doreen Virtue stopped using cards

I spent two decades creating angel card decks, believing they were helping people with comforting and positive messages. In 2017, this deception was shattered as I read God’s condemnation of divination in Deuteronomy 18. I was horrified to realize that I had gravely sinned by creating and selling divination tools.

If my old cards and books were self-published, I would have immediately pulled them from sale. However, other companies had licensed the cards from my publisher, and they ignored my requests to cease selling them. Plus, some bootleg printers in India and China started illegally publishing my old cards and selling them online. And then there were the used copies being sold in thrift stores. At least my website address is on these old products, which has gospel-centered articles.

For those who accuse me about money, please know that I gave refunds for the first two years following my conversion. I also left the new age in an enormous amount of debt which I’m still paying off with a lien on my home and monthly payments to repay the debt. Although I earned a lot in the new age, I lived like a rock star irresponsibly above my means. Bible study has helped me to gain an understanding of being responsible and grateful for God’s provisions.

Because some of my old products are still being sold, and because God commands us to expose deception (Eph 5:11), I sound the alarm about the spiritual dangers of angel cards. I feel absolutely terrible that I was part of spreading this deception in the past. If you used my cards, I apologize! I didn’t know that they were demon cards (2 Corinthians 11:14-15). Most of the card decks being sold are used copies, or bootleg illegally printed copies, or foreign publishers that are ignoring my written request that they stop publishing my old material. If you know someone who’s using angel cards, please forward this article to them and pray for God to open their eyes.

I pray that God will use my sinful past for His glory, and to point people to His kingdom, and away from new age deception.

Here are 4 reasons to avoid angel cards:

1. God condemns divination. He also condemns people who use divination as “detestable” or an “abomination.” God loves his children, and doesn’t want us to be deceived or to worship false idols. All forms of divination are condemned by God in the Bible. The Bible condemns divination in the Old and New Testaments: Deuteronomy 18:10; Joshua 13:22; 1 Samuel 15:23; 2 Kings 17:17; Ezekiel 13:23; Acts 16:16, 19:19. Some argue that the biblical “casting of lots“ gives us license to engage in divination, such as cards. Well, it doesn’t. God directed the casting of lots up until the apostolic age. The last time that we read about this process is in the book of Acts. There are no instructions to the early church, or to us, to cast lots in the New Testament epistles.

2. Angel cards are really demon cards. The devil and his demons masquerade as angels of light (2 Cor 11:14). We can tell the messages are from fallen angels (demons) because they give harmful advice disguised as love. These messages encourage people to sin with adultery, drunkenness, covetousness, idolatry, and divination. Those who follow these messages, like I used to do, end up with broken lives and shattered families. The messages never point people to worship the true Jesus (1 John 4:1-6).

3. The cards are unreliable and subjective. The feel-good messages on cards may seem encouraging, but they are vague and can’t answer specific questions. It’s too easy to project your wishes, and believe that it’s divine permission to follow your dreams. Yet, God never speaks through divination, since he doesn’t contradict himself. Why would you make decisions based upon pieces of cardboard?

4. Angel cards are entry-points toward a dark path. Angel cards seem innocent enough. After all, the Bible is filled with angel stories, right? Tragically, I’ve met many people who entered New Age deception by starting out with angel cards.

Satanic leader Aleister Crowley taught “do what thou wilt,” meaning to do whatever you want, as the devil’s way. Those who do whatever they want because they believe cards gave them divine directives, are following the devil’s way – which always leads to destruction in this life and the afterlife. Jesus is the ONLY way, truth and life (Jn 14:6).
