Worship the Creator of the moon – not the moon

It’s a super moon! It’s the new moon! It’s Mercury retrograde! What’s the sun sign of this new person that I just met? These were the conditions that I ran my life by before I was saved, and that many new agers live by today.

Full moons are beautiful, and they are a general revelation of God‘s glorious creation. However, when we think that the moon will bring us magical abundance or healing, that’s idolatry. Horoscopes and astrology are forbidden pagan practices because God wants us to lean upon him for answers (Deuteronomy 4:19; Isaiah 47:13–15). And no, the Magi were not astrologers.

We are exhorted to glorify God in everything we do (1 Corinthians 10:31). Astrology doesn’t glorify God. The Bible does not condone astrology. In addition, we see that the royal astrologers had limited abilities compared to God’s prophet Daniel (Daniel 1:20; Daniel 2:27).

In Romans 1, the apostle Paul warns against worshiping the creation (such as stars and planets) instead of the Creator. Why turn to the moon for answers, when you can go directly to the One who made the moon?
